Demand Based Training project is in line with Punjab Government’s Vision 2020 for IT, PITB’s goals and objectives. The project is in line with PITB’s plan to develop high quality manpower and to promote the use of IT in the province. Since IT is a knowledge based industry, any effort to develop it requires investment and resources.

The objective of this project is to conduct training, workshops, seminars and conferences to promote IT and IT-enabled services in all districts of Punjab. The cost of the project is Rs 243 million ($4 million). As part of this project, more than 20,000 individuals have been trained in less than a year.
Human resource development and capacity building are the key areas for the development of any project, organization, and country. Currently, there is an acute shortage of trained IT professionals, call center operations personnel, BPR professionals, change management consultants, and project managers throughout Pakistan including Punjab. It is imperative for Punjab government to make a concerted effort in training the workforce in order to fulfill the demands of the local industry and to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

Pakistan especially Punjab has recently received the attention of international funding agencies. This project can leave an extra ordinary impression on the IT framework in Punjab and can lead to development of human resources in IT. This program is intended to create a high Quality and Competitive IT Workforce in Punjab that can compete in the local and international market.

The objectives of the “Demand Based Training” project / scheme are listed below:

As part of this project, the Punjab Government would be able to train over 5,000 individuals including IT industry professional, teachers, and government employees in the next two and a half (2 ½) years. As a policy, PITB may execute this program through its own initiatives or by sponsoring training events which are organized by private sector and academic institutions. PITB may also sponsor local / foreign trainers and companies in organizing and conducting trainings and seminars. Most of these training events are organized by either private sector or academic institutions as the Punjab Government currently does not have the requisite capacity to organize and execute programs of this nature.

The training and seminars will be categorized in the following four broad categories:
A) Training for Executives and Decision Makers
B) Core Informatioin Technology Training
C) Teachers ICT Training
D) Other Demand/Need-Based

The Project provides 100% subsidy to public sector employees and as much as 80% subsidy to private sector trainees. The project will also provide free basic ICT training to teachers at the grassroots level.
