Computerization of Irrigation and Power Department

Taking into consideration of above mentioned facts it is vital to make a technology oriented management system to handle this huge department in an effective way. In this regard it is proposed that an intranet for irrigation system should be established with the following features



 
 

 

Server room in the department will work as backbone for all kind of activities in the department.


Canal wire system will be replaced with email system
Gauging system will be effective and manageable from any location
Flood monitoring system will be on GIS with server based environment
All old drawings will be digitized and stored in external mass storage device
Centralized backup and recovery system will be installed
Centralized technical support and software updated will reduce the operational cost of the system.

 

A complete BOQ has along with proposal has been prepared.This project covers all the computerization needs of Irrigation and Power Department This project includes the office automation, networking and printing needs of the institutions. Different locations of Irrigation Department will be connected through Telephone ines if required.


 

The establishment of Local Area Network will facilitate officials to transfor information through electronic mails and file transfer. This project will provide following facilities:


Establishment of Local Area Network at Irrigation and Power Department and associated institutions
Establishment of connectivity through Internet to the central database server located at Head Office of Department.
Latest hardware and networking equipment will be procured like servers, workstations, switches etc.
Specialized equipment like Digitizers will be provided for better functioning of the staff.
Head Officet Office will have dedicated domain controller, file server and database server.
Knowledge sharing will be done through electronic mails and file transfer.
The access to the centralized server will depend upon authentication of user name and password.
Online updated data will be available to officials all the time for decision and policy making.
Establishment of wide area network will be done through telephone lines. Every location will dial in to there ISP and connected to internet. Authorized users will be able to update data on the web server through internet.
Security policies will be documented and implemented for security.
Manpower will support the execution and maintenance of the project for the period of one year.
A disaster recovery plan will be formulated and will be implemented for data protection in case of emergency. Proper data backup procedures will be implemented.
Database servers will be available for 24 hours for updating of data.
The email and web server will be hosted by IT departments project named “Punjab Portal"
