PITB team attended a consultation workshop organized by Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held at Grand Luxus Hotel regarding the PAKISTAN ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION & TRACEABILITY SYSTEM (PAITS) that is being developed by PITB. Livestock Secretary Muhammad Masoud Anwar chaired the event. The purpose of this workshop was to give an introduction on the purpose, benefits and functionalities of PAITS. PITB team along with representatives from Livestock & Dairy Development Department and private livestock farm owners were among the participants.
Food and Mouth Disease (FMD) Management Specialist from FAO Dr. Muhammad Afzal explained the purpose and benefits of the project. PITB team briefed about the different modules and functionalities of the system and also gave a live demonstration of the system. Secretary Livestock and other participants appreciated the project and its purpose. All parties mutually agreed that PAITS should be implemented across Pakistan to improve and address the challenges that are currently being faced by the livestock sector in Pakistan.
