The delegation members were then taken to the Seminar Room where they were briefed by the Directors and Program Managers of various IT Projects. Nabeel Qadeer gave a presentation on “Plan 9” which is PITB’s incubation programme which helps young IT entrepreneurs realize their dream projects through free services and mentoring and builds them into profit earning professionals.
Saflain Haider gave a briefing on the Interactive Database Management System and Disease Surveillance System established by PITB to control and monitor diseases. He explained the geo-tagging of information and the data input methodology along with the multiple cross checks established in the system.
Burhan Rasool briefed the delegation about Crime Investigative Reporting System, which is designed to facilitate Police Department, to analyze crime patterns across the city of Lahore in 83 Police Stations. He told the delegation that major crimes reported on daily basis in all the police stations of Lahore are recorded on the mobile phone from the place of incident with a picture, location on the Google Map along with date of incident and sections of laws applicable. This web application brings all the decision making officers on the same page with shared intelligence for better strategy and action.
The Indian delegates expressed appreciation for the initiatives. Some of them even said that they would be interested in implementing such IT initiatives in India.
